Want to preserve the centerpiece of historic Pasadena?

We urgently need all our supporters to sign the petition below so we can present 1,000 names to Pasadena City Council

The City needs to hear your voice and get its priorities right!

  • Help us to get over 1000 signatures on our petition to city council. We will present these signatures in up coming public process outreach meetings, commission meetings and city council. It’s important that we recognize the Pasadena Civic Center—City Hall and the garden-like settings— is at the heart of our city and has the highest priority when looking at plans to create new development on the Civic gardens. This is not about one building. It’s about protecting the entire Pasadena Civic Center National Register Historic District.

  • Honor the values and efforts of the Pasadena citizens who had the vision to vote for a 1923 bond measure which was founded on the City Beautiful movement and made the substantial financial investment to carry out that vision.

  • Continue the hundred-year-old legacy Pasadena citizens entrusted to us by creating a vision for the next 200 years. Develop a substantive public process to achieve that visioning study goal and ultimately enable a larger public process to develop a project to be more compatible with the Civic Center’s architectural and cultural traditions

  • Identify historic and cultural landscape issues throughout the Pasadena Civic Center National Register Historic District. Develop a Cultural Landscape Report to help identify important district features so that further degradation of its trees, gardens, and lighting and other amenities doesn’t occur.

  • Rehabilitate the important Julia Morgan-designed YWCA building

  • Our First Priority is the Civic Center. We will not settle for a project that sells off the Civic Gardens or destroys the garden-like setting of City Hall
  • We believe that the YWCA is an important historic resource. While important, it is one of many important historic resources of the Civic Center as a whole – City Hall and the Civic Gardens along Holly and Garfield that create the garden-like setting; the Pasadena Robinson Memorial prominence and contemplative setting, and the YWCA. We should not sacrifice the integrity of the Civic Center to rehabilitate the YWCA.
  • The Civic Gardens surrounding City Hall, garden setting that the Civic Gardens provide, the contemplative setting and prominence of the Pasadena Robinson Memorial, and the views to City Hall are essential to the historic integrity of the Civic Center.
  • Let's preserve all – Civic Gardens, Pasadena Robinson Memorial prominence. unobstructed views to City Hall, and the YWCA!
Thank you for signing our petition… can you also send an email to City Council members and/or attend on Monday night council meetings?

An email from a constituent carries much more weight than a signature on a petition. City Council agendas can be found at:

I understand how difficult it is to make a restoration project cost effective…but surely there must be a way not to dwarf the YWCA building with such a large and all encroaching development. It looks terrible to me, a life long resident of Pasadena

    Why ANOTHER HOTEL???

The city did not have enough citizen input on this project.

The proposal does not include enough parking in the nightmarish parking atmosphere in the civic center/old town area.

Not enough parkland in our city!!!!

How did this project get this far??

I walk or bike through the Civic Center at least once a week on my way to and from the library, offices on Walnut, the north end of Old Pasadena, and events at Day One or All Saints Church. I like the garden-like green space in the Civic Center. I think it’s important to preserve the peacefulness and the sense of heritage in that area. And I think it’s important to honor the sister city trees and the Jackie Robinson memorial by not tearing out the former and making sure that the latter isn’t eclipsed by the hotel. Please don’t let option 2A go forward.

I am not sure why local governments feel they need to give away so much to developers. They demand more and more, but this is going too far. That land belongs to the people of Pasadena, and it should not even be considered as a give away..

One of the reasons we love living in Pasadena is its distinctive civic center. This NON boutique hotel will add nothing to this historic area but chaos and clutter. There is an option for a true boutique hotel which preserves original facade and parkland and has a smaller impact on traffic and parking. Don’t let greedy outside developers come in and destroy our beautiful civic center for the empty promise of financial gain for the city.
